Mountain View College Triumphs in ASEAN Month 2026 Celebrations, Championing SDGs and Regional Solidarity
Mountain View College successfully marked its vibrant participation in this year’s ASEAN Month celebrations, culminating in a powerful showcase of academic excellence, sustainable development values, and artistic talent during the Region 10 ASEAN 2026 Culminating Activity held at the People’s Gym in Tangub City on August 27, 2026.
Organized by the Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 10 (CHEDRO-X), the regional event gathered higher education institutions across the region under the chairship theme, “Setting Sail for ASEAN 2026: Navigating Our Future, Together.” The initiative directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), by advancing inclusive education policies and fostering regional, people-centered internationalization.

MVC kicked off its institutional celebrations earlier in the month with an internal Digital Poster-Making Contest spearheaded by the Office of International Cooperation and Networking, led by coordinator Charity Joy L. Sumagaysay. The competition gave students a creative platform to express their understanding of ASEAN’s role in unity, cultural diversity, and sustainable development.
Ms. Trisha Lynnore B. Tigley from the School of Arts and Sciences secured the first prize of PHP 1,500.00 and the honor of representing the college at the regional screening. Other institutional winners included Mr. Yvanne Vrylle D. Jose from the School of Computing (Second Prize, PHP 1,000.00), Aria Althea B. Cabiling from the School of Arts and Sciences (Third Prize, PHP 500.00), and Mariane P. Requina from the School of Agriculture, who received a consolation prize.

Tigley’s winning entry went on to achieve regional acclaim, embodying student action for sustainability and civic awareness. Out of 30 competitive submissions from higher education institutions across Region 10, MVC’s poster was selected as one of the top 15 Outstanding Digital Posters. These elite entries advanced to the final round, where they were showcased on the official CHEDRO-X Facebook page for final judging and public voting.
The regional culmination program on August 27 featured prominent educational and local leaders, including CHED Chairperson, Dr. Shirley C. Agrupis, CHED International Affairs Service Director, Dr. Christine Nabor-Ferrer, and CHEDRO-X OIC-Regional Director, Dr. Leo D. Camposano. Local executives, including Tangub City Mayor Hon. Sabiniano S. Canama, and Misamis Occidental Governor Hon. Henry S. Oaminal Sr., delivered messages emphasizing the collective regional effort required to achieve sustainable milestones.
Representing the MVC administration at the event were the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Coordinator of the Office of International Cooperation and Networking. In addition to celebrating its poster-making finalist, MVC took center stage musically. The college’s acclaimed Sons and Daughters (SD) Chorale Arts Society was officially invited by CHEDRO-X to perform during the program. The chorale delivered two beautiful musical numbers, including a poignant performance of the ASEAN theme song, “One Vision, One Ocean,” symbolizing environmental consciousness under SDG 14 (Life Below Water) and regional peace.

This active involvement underscores Mountain View College’s ongoing mission to champion the United Nations SDGs. Rooted in the Seventh-day Adventist emblem of wholistic development, MVC proudly advances global citizenship and localized actions, standing as a shining light of progress across the broader ASEAN community.
